Role Overview

Synthesis Capital is seeking a full-time Senior Associate to join the investment team in their London office, supporting senior management and working throughout the entire investment lifecycle. This role is an exciting and varied position, offering an opportunity to join a venture capital firm founded by a prominent and experienced team in food technology at an early stage of its development.

Synthesis Capital invests in food tech and alternative proteins, a high growth and high impact sector solving major global challenges. The small and highly motivated team is looking for an enthusiastic and flexible self-starter who is comfortable applying their own initiative and is willing to get involved in many different aspects of the firm as required. The role presents a chance to work with significant levels of responsibility in a lean but growing team.

The successful candidate will enjoy and be adept at both investment analysis and relationship-building skills. Day to day, the successful candidate will be involved in deal sourcing, due diligence meetings, business plan analysis, investment case construction, financial modelling and other analyses, preparation of investment materials, through to deal execution and portfolio management and monitoring.

Primary Responsibilities

• Market analysis. Undertake ongoing market research to help identify new investment trends and opportunities
• Deal screening. Assess new prospects for potential fit with investment focus
• Due diligence. Overseen by a Partner, manage diligence processes through the full lifecycle of deals from origination through execution: run elements of the investment process including founder meetings, Investment Committee memo creation, and deal execution; proactively analyse and interpret investment data to identify and present investment opportunities to the team, including participation in IC discussions
• Portfolio oversight. Work with and support portfolio companies, tracking portfolio performance
• Documentation. Ensure CRM is kept up to date; maintain deal pipeline database
• Network. Develop relationships with and support portfolio company founders / leadership, and high-potential targets

Person Specification

• 5–6 years financial experience gained at a top-tier venture capital firm, private equity firm, investment bank, or management consultancy (in the PE/CDD part of consultancy)
• Bachelor’s Degree (with MBA preferred)
• Outstanding analytical skills with quantitative expertise
• Advanced computer skills, including strong proficiency in Excel and PowerPoint
• Experience with creating and evaluating financial models and investment valuation
• Detail-oriented, proactive and self-motivated
• Exceptional communication skills
• Excellent teamwork skills
• Results-focused, strategic thinker and planner
• Interest in future of food and alternative proteins; motivation for building a long-term career in the sector
• Additional languages are advantageous but not required
• Right to work in the UK is essential
